The Mark Twain Wild West Fest is designed to bring people together to share ennobling artistic, educational and community-building experiences and to learn and benefit from the history and culture of historic Angels Camp and Calaveras County.
It was a visit to the Gold Rush town of Angels Camp in 1865 that launched the literary career of Mark Twain, one of America’s most beloved literary figures. It was in Angels Camp where Twain found his voice that would soon lead him to worldwide fame with the publication of his tale, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.
The annual Mark Twain Wild West Fest is held on Main Street, Angels Camp on the third Saturday of October to celebrate, support and promote the local history, art, music, and culture of our beloved town, Calaveras County and the Sierra Nevada Mother Lode region.
The Mark Twain Wild West Fest is organized by the Angels Camp Commemorative Committee of the Angels Camp Business Association. The event continues to grow in size as families and visitors from near and far rediscover the Gold Rush Era in the heart of California’s Gold Country.
