The Mark Twain Wild West Festseeks to develop strategic alliances with businesses and individuals looking to align themselves with a world class event celebrating the global literary figure Mark Twain, who had a major impact on Angels Camp and also became world famous as a result of his time here. The Mark Twain Wild West Fest will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 10 am to 5 pm, on Main Street in historic downtown Angels Camp. The inimitable, immersive, description-defying, high-camp and whimsical Mark Twain Wild West Fest promises to be a living interpretation and celebration of the 19th Century Wild West Gold Rush era in the Mother Lode. The Mark Twain Wild West Music Fest After Party will be held from 5 pm to 9 pm in Utica Park

Between 6,000 and 8,000 are expected to attend the daytime street festival portion of the event and 1,000 to 1,500 are expected to attend the Music Fest After Party in Utica Park.

The Mark Twain Wild West Fest started out years ago as ‘Gold Rush Day’ honoring special milestones in Angels Camp history,” says Anne Forrest, chairman of the Angels Camp Commemorative Committee. “In 2015, we planned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Mark Twain’s time in Angels Camp and the Mother Lode, but had to cancel the event because of the Butte Fire that devastated a good portion of our county.

“As we began to plan for 2016, we realized that not only did Mark Twain have a lasting influence on Angels Camp, but Angels Camp had a significant impact on Samuel Clemens, aka, Mark Twain. His tale, ‘The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County,’ which he heard at the bar of the Angels Hotel, was his first work to gain worldwide fame. Angels Camp is truly the place where Mark Twain found his voice,” concludes Anne.

Featured are:

  • Three stages of non-stop music, comedy and entertainment;
  • Roving street performers, magicians, jugglers, musicians, honky-tonk piano players and dance hall girls;
  • Beer, wine and food;
  • Gun-slinging cowboys and outlaws and shoot-out reenactments, as well as villains and damsels in distress;
  • Gold miners, their encampment and gold panning demonstrations;
  • A flapjack breakfast;
  • Over 80 street vendors of all descriptions,
  • A custom car show… and more.

The day will be capped by a 4-hour evening live music concert and dancing under the stars in Utica Park. Admission, parking and shuttle buses are FREE all day.

In addition, legendary historical literary figures, entertainers and iconic personalities who made the American West great will be in attendance, including Mark Twain himself. Entertainment will also feature a children’s storytelling workshop with Mark Twain, a Liar’s Contest, the Gold Rush Village, and other activities for adults and children of all ages.

This year, the Mark Twain Wild West Fest is offering raffle tickets for $10 each with the grand prize of a 4.68-ounce Gold Nugget valued at approximately $6,000.00. Raffle tickets, which are being promoted worldwide through RaffleRiver.com, may be purchased online through http://www.marktwainwildwestfest.com, or at local retailers, events and the festival.

Attendees are strongly encouraged to attend in costume… Wild West, Western, Gold Rush, Steampunk, Edwardian, Victorian, Gothic and attire of the era. Costume contests will be held throughout the day.
