Paint a white picket fence with Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher and Huckleberry Finn next weekend in Angels Camp.
Literature coming to life is just one of the many attractions offered at the Mark Twain Wild West Fest, slated from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 15 on Main Street in historic downtown Angels Camp.
The festival is a new take on Angels Camp’s Gold Rush Days, which was cancelled last year due to the Butte Fire.
But it’s not just a new name — organizers have worked to revamp and expand the event.
“There are so many Gold Rush Days in the area … but ‘Mark Twain Wild West Fest’ came up. As soon as somebody said that we were like, ‘Yes!’ ” said Anne Forrest, chairwoman of the event and member of the Angels Camp Business Association and Commemorative Committee.
